A white dress shirt can be one of the most versatile pieces of clothing in a man’s wardrobe.  It’s the perfect complement to a suit or jacket.  It can also be paired with khakis or jeans for a more casual look.  These are the most obvious ways to wear a white dress shirt.  Here are a few more ways that you can create different looks with a classic white dress shirt.

  • Layer a White Dress Shirt
A white dress shirt can be worn unbuttoned over a white, print or colour t-shirt.  For guys who are in shape, a close fitting tee is a great way to show off tight abs.  Try this look with straight-legged jeans for a contemporary look.

  • Pair a Dress Shirt with Leather
Avoid the clichéd bad-boy look of a leather jacket by pairing it with a white dress shirt.  A motorcycle or bomber jacket can be worn with a white dress shirt and a tie for a hip take on office casual.

  • Wrap a Dress Shirt in a Sweater
Wearing a bright cardigan or pullover sweater over a white dress shirt is a great way to add variety to your wardrobe.  A bright blue or red sweater complements darker skin tones, while a gray or camel-coloured sweater will be less overwhelming for fairer complexions.
  • Experiment with Patterned and Coloured Pants
A white dress shirt’s simplicity allows you to experiment with trouser pattern and colour.   Pants in bright shades of red, orange, yellow and green look great with a neutral white shirt.  Madras trousers or shorts attract enough attention on their own, making a white dress shirt the perfect addition.

  • Stay Cool in a Seersucker Jacket or Suit
A seersucker jacket or suit is a classic warm weather look.  This lightweight striped fabric that never seems to go out of style. It’s available in a variety of colour combinations, but you can never go wrong with classic blue and white striped seersucker with a white dress shirt.

Don’t be afraid to wear a white dress shirt in new ways.  You can stretch your wardrobe and remove the word “boring” from your fashion vocabulary with new combinations.
