After-office Fashion Tips for Men
December 12th, 2013StyleSolosso 0 Comments

Men’s fashion has finally come of age and sloppy dressers have run out of excuses not to be smartly attired. Men now have a wide selection of fashion options when going out for an evening drink or a moonlit stroll.

So, it’s after work hours and you’re headed to your favorite watering hole for a drink with the gang. Do you pop into your apartment for a quick change of clothes, or is it acceptable to wear your office suit for a night out with friends?

For a round of drinks and one or two hours of casual, non-work related chatter, ditching the tie usually suffices. It’s not a bad idea to leave your suit coat in the car, either. If you can make a quick stop at the men’s bathroom and give your hair a tousle, even better. The idea is to shed your office persona so you can relax and have a good time.

No tie and a pocket square is always a good idea.

If you’re going to a cocktail lounge or a supper club for a real night out on the town, it’s probably a good idea to take the time to change from your typical work clothes and into a completely different outfit. Go for something comfortable yet stylish, but keep it simple. The last thing you want to be thinking of when you’re intent on having a fun evening is whether or not your socks clash with your shirt.

The rules about what to wear (or avoid wearing) during an evening outing have relaxed significantly in the last couple of years. Very few bars have dress codes, but some clubs do. The trick is to choose a comfortable outfit that flatters you, allows you to fit in, and still manages to set you apart from the crowd. Choosing the right accessory helps you achieve this. Be aware though that accessory fads come and go rather quickly; keep your ears to the ground or you can be caught sporting a dated trend (remember wallet chains?). Square-toed shoes and wide ties, for instance, don’t do much to flatter most men, and they’ve become old fashioned and out of place in most martini bars, clubs, and lounges.

In the final analysis, the best outfit for that bewitching cocktail hour or an evening out about town is one that you can wear with complete self-assurance. After all, confidence never goes out of style.
