6 Ways to Update Your Closet for 2015
January 21st, 2015Style, TrendsSolosso 0 Comments

It’s time to shed those 2014 styles and get with the New Year. Many of us are in post-holiday recovery mode. That means our belts and budgets are a bit tighter these days, but don’t wait until spring to refresh your wardrobe.

There are a few new-old favorites taking back the spotlight.

1. Breathing Room

The last few years have been riddled with skin-tight jeans and slacks and clinging shirts. But 2015 whispers of a little more freedom, so if you’ve been dying for a little ventilation, this will be your year. The runways showcasing 2015 attire have been filled with straight-cut slacks or even wide-legged trousers.

It’s important to pay attention to the balance of your frame as you let your seams out a bit. For instance, when it comes to picking the perfect pair of pants, don’t drop yourself into the baggy grunge style of the 1990s. Look for elegant — not sloppy — lines.

2. Put Down the Phone

A good-quality timepiece is an essential accessory, and no, your phone doesn’t count as a timepiece. It’s past time that you incorporate a timeless timepiece to elevate your wardrobe.

Keep in mind there’s more to a watch than functionality. Wristwatches are quickly becoming a luxury. Many are made with innovative methods and materials. A timepiece is a way to express your personality, so make sure you pick one that reflects you.

3. Return of the Pinstripe, Sort of

The classic pinstripe suite is back in style, but don’t feel limited to a plain old pinstripe. This year’s pinstripe takeover will clash vertical and horizontal pinstripes; just remember to only clash stripes, not colors.

Pinstripes are in

Don’t forget it’s good to mix up the thickness of the stripes and, while this certainly isn’t the year to bring back velvet, look at the texture of the fabric that you wear. Cable knits can work with you or against you with this fashion.

4. Lighten Up

All those neutral tones in your wardrobe really do come in handy. Mix your beige and light grey clothes up by investing in colors that make you think spring. That’s right, pastels are back this year in blues, yellows, greens and pinks.

Don’t forget to keep the not-so-skin-tight look in check when picking out a few key pieces.

5. Neckerchief

We’re still in the cooler months of the year, and even leading into the first few months of spring, a neckerchief is a colorful way to spruce up your wardrobe without breaking the bank. Also called a cravat, these old-school ties have been around for more than a few centuries and, like all good things, it’s time to bring them back.

Comining cravat and denim

No idea what to do with your new neckerchief? These little guys aren’t limited to fancy weddings or late nights on the town but also pair well with casual wear.

Start slowly by learning how to tie a basic cravat. There are quite a few ways to wear a cravat, too. So don’t think all you do is knot it around your neck and call it a day. You should develop your own sense of style with the knots. So practice those knots!

6. Denim

Denim might not be cheap, but it’s still economical. Your old jeans are almost always in, and they’re the ultimate canvas of your wardrobe. Don’t be afraid to pair your new cravat with jeans and a button-up shirt.

Remember that denim isn’t just limited to jeans. Denim is taking the spotlight this year and really becoming the focus of many ensembles. Look for fitted vests and jackets, too.

You can ditch your current closet or build off of your existing style, but either way these concepts will help you maintain your own sense of style.
